The collection is based on materials from the collections of the Smolensk artist and musician Vlad Makarov and the poet and artist Eduard Kulemin. These have been supplemented by the archive of the newspaper Gumanitarnyi fond, the archive of the writer Oleg Razumovsky, photographs by the artist and historian Vladimir Markov, the archive of the literary and philosophical journal Slovo, and archive materials from the Smolensk Rock Club, Dom Molodezhei Gallery, and several local media outlets. The archive of Smolensk art is constructed primarily around local unofficial artists and independent self‑organized collective initiatives, covering the period from the mid‑1980s until the late 2000s.
The archive includes biographical information, portfolios, information about events, press releases, photographs from exhibitions, concerts, and festivals, and also samizdat poetry collections, almanacs, exhibition catalogues, journals, and articles.
Most of the materials are digital copies, with the originals held by the authors.
