About Marina Sokolovskaya

Marina Sokolovskaya is a curator and art historian and a lecturer at Ural Federal University. She has curated projects at Yeltsin Center, Belinsky Sverdlovsk Oblast Universal Scientific Library, Metenkov House Museum of Photography (Yekaterinburg History Museum), OkNo Gallery (Chelyabinsk), and Soviet Naive Art Museum (Perm).

Sokolovskaya has been involved in the artistic life of Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Tagil, and Perm since 2002. She has facilitated the preservation of over 200 documents (booklets, invitations, leaflets and brochures relating to projects at local museums and galleries-for example, exhibitions at the self-organized space NOGA in the mid-2000s-and projects in Moscow) in the archive of the Yeltsin Center Art Gallery.

The Archive

The archive holds unique documents, including the manuscripts of Chromosome Emancipation and Transnational Abstract Poetry by the Yekaterinburg artist and poet Leonid Lugovykh and nine issues of ZAART, a journal on contemporary art in Russia and the Urals published by the Contemporary Art Center at the Ural State University (Yekaterinburg) since 2002. Artefacts in the archive include those related to people and events around the Ural branch of the National Center for Contemporary Arts (NCCA, Yekaterinburg), the Ural Museum of Youth (Yekaterinburg), Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts, the Contemporary Art Center at the Ural State University, PARAM Gallery (Yekaterinburg), IGNYPS Publishing House (Yekaterinburg), and PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art (Perm).
