This book is published on the occasion of the exhibition “Franz Gertsch. Geheimnis Natur”, Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden, 26.10.2013-16.02.2014. Franz Gertsch became internationally known with his large format and hyperrealistic paintings and is one of the most important Swiss contemporary artists. His central motifs are figures and landscapes, which he transfers to the canvas in a characteristic, elaborate and lengthy process which is characteristic of him. The artistic production process spans months, sometimes years, since the artist works without the use of reproduction techniques. In a puncturing technique, he transforms the images into the various media, such as woodcut, graphics and painting. In contrast to the hyperrealistic paintings, the prints look abstract and alienated. The catalog provides a comprehensive insight into the world of the artist by means of exemplary works which, in their technical perfection, go far beyond the photoreal rendering.
