Description
The career of Piet Mondrian is of course best known for the artist's contribution to what is often designated Geometric Abstract Art, of which tendency or movement in early‑twentieth‑century painting he is, along with Wassily Kandinsky, Kasimir Malevich and Franz Kupka, recognized as having been a pioneering exponent. His role in this development was acknowledged within European art circles from a relatively early date, beginning with the description by Guillaume Apollinaire of his contribution to the Dutch room at the spring 1913 Salon des independants as constituting a peinture thes abstraite. More than 1800 illustrations, including 375 plates in full color.
