The Bhopal Medical Appeal was proud to present a gallery exhibition by, Elana Neil, Viv Iana and Elena Slobtseva. The exhibition looked at the world of insects, how they relate to our world and the issues of mental health.
Elana Neil was inspired by The Bhopal Medical Appeal's co-founder Indra Sinha's Booker-nominated novel, Animal's People. The setting for this fictional tale is in the wake of a disaster that clearly resembles the tragedy of Bhopal and references insects throughout. She also drew her inspiration from her father's life and her work as a cleaner following his death.
Elena Slobtseva is an established conceptual artist who lives and works in Perm, Russia. She uses metal office and construction staples as her preferred material and works in the media of video and installation/object.
Elana and Viv first met in 1999, during a study year abroad in Brighton, both have been coming back to this vibrant community regularly. Viv now lives in Brighton and has exhibited some of her paintings before. She contributed to the exhibition with a painting entitled “Insects”.
