Archive of Voronezh Contemporary Art

The Archive of Voronezh Contemporary Art was founded in 2009 by the artists, curators, and art researchers Nikolai Alekseev, Arseny Zhilyaev, Ivan Gorshkov, Ilya Dolgov, Maria Chekhonadskikh, and Tatiana Danilevskaya.

The archive collects, organizes, and analyzes materials about the development of contemporary art in Voronezh since the late 1960s. The main materials can be divided chronologically into four parts: artists’ personal archives of the 1980s and 1990s; Kh.L.A.M. Gallery archive of the 2000s and 2010s; artists’ personal archives of the 2010s and 2020s; and a separate archive of Voronezh Center for Contemporary Art.

The archive includes information about people on the Voronezh art scene, from the “older generation” (Valery Isayants, Arkady Davidovich, Sergei Gorshkov, and Alexander Nozhkin) to currently active artists and curators (Kirill Garshin, Evgenia Nozhkina, Oleg Dautov, Mikhail Dobrovolsky, and others).

The collection comprises photo, video, and audio documentation of exhibitions, education projects, and other cultural events and also interviews with artists, portfolios, and press releases. Most of the materials are digital copies. The originals are held by the authors or in private collections.
